Weed control

 

WHAT TYPE OF WEED DO I HAVE ?

BROADLEAF : Wide leaves, often with bright flowers.   Ie. Dandelion, clover, plantain.

GRASSY : Round or flat stems and long narrow leaves. Ie. Hay.

 

 

WHAT TYPE OF CHEMICAL WEED KILLERS ARE THERE?

SELECTIVE : Controls only specific weeds.  Killex : kill sonly broadleaf plants but won't harm grass. Use on lawns.

NONSELECTIVE : Kills any grass or plants it contacts.  Use where you need to elimiate all plants. Ie. Interlocking brick.  Product name: Roundup.

 

 

LABELS TELL YOU : 

* Measuring directions.

* Areas where herbicide can be used.

* Plants to use herbicide on.

* Safety precautions.

* How long to wait before re-entering area. 

 

 

OTHER METHODS TO REMOVE WEEDS. 

* Pull by hand.

* Use specialized tools.

* Till under with hand or mechanical tiller. 

* Mulch with organic or synthetic mulch.

* Use plastic or landscape fabric.

* Maintain a healthy lawn: mow water, fertilize, overseed.

* Start with good topsoil for flower beds.

* Light weeding removing root and top before they set seed is the best method to control weeds in flower beds.
