Project One: Burin Heritage Square Revitalization, Burin, NL
The Burin Heritage Square is located in the heart of Old Burin, Newfoundland. It is a picturesque area with many amenities for tourists and locals alike. The result of the project was a concept that suggested the redevelopment of several buildings, green spaces, streets and parking areas, performance venues, walking trails, and attractions. The final report also focused on municipal branding, tourism, circulation, wayfinding and signage, and the overall beautification of the area.
Project Two: Grand Bank Downtown and Waterfront Area Redevelopment, Grand Bank, NL
The Grand Bank Downtown / Waterfront area is located in the heart of Grand Bank, Newfoundland. It is a unique waterfront in rural Newfoundland, with many amenities for tourists and locals alike. The result of the project was a concept that suggested the redevelopment of several buildings, green spaces, streets, parking areas, performance venues, walking trails, and attractions. The final report also focused on municipal branding, increased historical visibility, tourism, circulation, wayfinding and signage, and overall beautification of the area.
Project Three: Transatlantic Park, Heart’s Content, NL
Heart’s Content is home to the Heart’s Content Cable Station, which is where the Transatlantic Cable made landfall in 1866, completing the first telegraph connection between Europe and North America. For the 150th anniversary in 2016, Provincial Historic Sites wanted to update the existing outdoor space to commemorate the monumental event. The new Transatlantic Park saw the relocation of two existing monuments, and the inclusion of new seating, gathering area, and planting. A feature of the new park is a custom metal banding that carries one of the first messages sent across the cable in 1866, in both written word and Morse code. Murray’s was involved with this project from conceptual design right through to construction.
Project Four: Port Blandford Municipal Park, Port Blandford, NL
Port Blandford is a popular destination for seasonal residents and tourists alike near Terra Nova National Park. This project involved creating a master plan for the park that could meet the different recreation requirements for all user groups. The final design included an ampitheatre, upgraded parking and circulation, sports areas, and trail systems.
Project Five: Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Facility, St. John’s, NL
The Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Centre is an existing facility where those with disabilities can learn to ride horses. It is located on the outskirts of Pippy Park in St. John’s. The main goal of the landscape piece of the project was to develop a series of new trails and paddocks for the horses. The trails were designed with specific standards in mind to make them as accessible and comfortable as possible for both the horses and riders.
Project Six: St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Burin, NL
This project involved the design of a historic cemetery in the heart of picturesque Old Burin. All existing grave sites were preserved, and a new area was created to allow for columbaria, an altar, seating, and statuary.
