POTW: Bee Balm (Monarda didyma) 🌸🐝A great late summer blooming perennial, bee balm starts blooming right when pollinators need it the most. This particular species is the 'Jacob Cline' which is known for its enormous flowers and for being particularly resistant to mildew. ~ Native to North America ~ Belongs to the mint family, Lamicaea, which also includes lavender, rosemary, basil, sage and oregano 🌿~ The flowers and leaves are very aromatic – giving off a minty-citrusy scent ~ Its fragrant leaves were traditionally brewed into tea by the Oswego people of New York ☕️~ After the first frost turns the stems brown, cut the plant back to 2 inches above the ground and mulch well for added protection during the winter 🌱It's not too late to add perennials to your garden!
